PRESS RELEASE
LAMDA Development supports the Special Olympics.
LAMDA Development sponsors performances by the La Scala Ballet of Milan, proceeds raised to support Special Olympics initiatives.
LAMDA Development continues the companys consistent support of the Special Olympics. Only two months after the companys sponsorship of the Worldwide Special Olympics Festival in Rhodes, LAMDA Development is sponsoring performances by one of the worlds most renowned classical ballet companies, the Il Corpo di Ballo del Teatro alla Scala di Milano.
As a part of the Athens Festival event programme, the ballet company will appear for the first time in Greece with the aim of contributing to the fund-raising efforts for the support of the Special Olympics. The proceeds from the performances will be used for the full preparation of the Greek National Special Olympics Team and will also contribute to the transportation costs and participation of the Team in the Worldwide Special Olympics Winter Games, which will be held in March 2005 in Nagano, Japan.
The famous ballet company, which was founded in Milan in 1778, will stage three performances at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus with the musical support of the Bulgarian National Symphony Orchestra. On July 20 and July 21, the performances will be based on William Shakespeares play A Midsummers Night Dream with the music of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and choreography by George Balanchine. On 22 July 2004, a grand Gala dedicated to the memory of Rudolf Nureyev will be staged, featuring leading soloists from the Bolshoi Ballet, the Kirov Ballet, the Royal Ballet of London, the Paris Ballet Theatre National Opera, the Teatro alla Scalla of Milan and the New York City Ballet.
LAMDA Developments sponsorship of the performances underlines the companys consistent commitment to supporting important events that promote the Olympic ideal, particularly those which promote the power of human endeavour to successfully overcome individual differences and physical limitations. LAMDA Developments sponsorship initiative aligns with the companys overall Corporate Social Responsibility programme, which includes a wide range of activities focused on social welfare, culture, youth education and the strengthening of local communities.
